Today we discussed (in excruciating detail) the process of photosynthesis. If you were absent today, you best be in tutoring asap!! If you were lost today, you best be in tutoring asap!! Vernon received a handout of the process in class. You should be able to recite the process of photosynthesis, by memory, next week. Try it at home; teach your dog something! This weekend you should: 1. Do your homework: pages 173-177. 2. Read this article from PBS about the Tylenol murders. Be prepared with the knowledge gained from this article for Monday. 3. Teach someone [mom, dad, brother, sister, dog (don't teach a cat, they won't care...), your posters on your wall] the process of photosynthesis. 4. If you're confused, or just want some more help, watch this video featuring my favorite, Hank Green. Today we discussed photosynthesis; specifically we covered the anatomy of a leaf and chloroplast structure. Details can be found under Unit 2, in the powerpoints folder. Homework tonight is to read pages 165-170 in the textbook and take notes.
The Egg Osmosis Lab write-up due date has been changed to Monday. You will be writing a lab write-up for the egg osmosis lab using the data you obtained from our lab last week. The rubric for grading is found below, or here. You can also find a guide to writing lab reports for science here. You may work independently, or in groups of a maximum of 3 people. This lab report will be worth 200 points (or 2 minor grades) and is due this Friday, September 11th. Today we finished our egg lab. We will discuss the egg lab write-up next week (Tuesday). We also completed a microscope lab where we looked at cells. Your task is to look at the following slides: 1. Cheek cells (you make) 2. Blood smear 3. Cork 4. Elodea 5. Your choice of a protist You will look at it at the best magnification in order to see the cells (this will vary from slide to slide). You will use the Exo Camera app to take pictures and label the cells. You will insert your pictures into any presentation software (word, powerpoint, prezi, pages, etc.). Each image must include: - A label as to what is seen in the image (i.e., cheek cell) - At least one labeled cell part/organelle - The magnification used in the image You will turn this in on Monday onto google classroom. Here are example images of what you should see: STUDY FOR YOUR TEST OVER THE WEEKEND! TEST REVIEW IS UNDER THE "STUDY!!" SECTION!
Be sure to turn in your cell structure gizmo onto google drive and take the cell quiz!!!
Today we took a quiz over cell organelles and biomolecules. See Mrs. Smith if you missed class today. We also discussed the cell membrane and its role in maintaining homeostasis. Be sure to reference the powerpoint for this! Day 4 of the Egg Lab was completed. We placed the egg in 200 mL of syrup and will see what happens to the cell overnight. What is your hypothesis? Be sure to take pictures of your egg as we progress through this lab. Homework tonight is pages 135-140, about active transport. Finish your cell stations today! Don't forget to:
1) Upload your Gizmo to google drive. 2) Show Mrs. Smith your other work. 3) Take the open-note quiz found here. (Log-in is the same as it was Friday!) Homework tonight is pages 128-134. Also for homework, please watch the 2 videos below (they are short...promise): Video 1 Video 2 |
